Remember, back in the day when screen size mattered, thickness was no issue and "WOWS" were sent by 1GHz processors. I don't either. But it is amazing to see how far we have come since the start of a truly amazing product. The Nexus.
The start of the era was symbolized by the original Nexus. The Nexus One. This packed a 3.7 inch screen (large for the time) which set a trend.
Looking back it is funny that screens that size were considered large and how people got excited about a single-core 1GHz chip. Just that would tell you how quickly we've evolved from there. It is that evolution and the trends in it that we want to focus on here: to spot what Google has focused on keeping and changing in these years, in both devices, Android software and price. And Google has done an amazing job.
A Nexus has always been an affordable, high-end phone, and that is shown throughout every Nexus model. The Nexus S may have launched at $529 unlocked, but travel through time for about 5 years and we are sitting here today looking at an LG Nexus 5 starting at £299. The change is staggering.
You know that for the amount of work and components put into these phones, the prices are ripping the manufacturers off! The companies making the phone and Google are not likely to be making much of a profit for their cheap phones. But that's what makes them successful!

The Nexus One, Nexus S and the Galaxy Nexus! |
The Galaxy Nexus was a revolution for its time. Featuring a 4.65 inch screen and the latest version of Android at the time (4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich) this phone was a winner. It was made by the popular Samsung company and came with Samsung's astounding Super AMOLED screen!
It had an amazing display of 720 x 1280 pixels producing a sharp, contrasting image. It had an oleophobic coating, preventing fingerprints and scratches to retain that beautiful Super AMOLED screen!
It had 16GB of storage and 1GB of RAM making games an enjoyable experience!
Its primary camera had video recording at 1080p@24FPS and photography at 5MP.
And to top it all off, it had a 1.2GHz Dual-core Cortex-A9 CPU!
Then, we have the Nexus 4, in my opinion the best phone of 2012. It had monstrous specifications for £259. I mean, what more could you ask for?! It was made by LG and Google to create the most beautiful Nexus device ever created. It had a 4.7 inch screen with a True HD IPS Plus capacitive touchscreen with a 318 ppi. This phone spoke for itself. Astounding! You can sit back re-assured that Google nor LG made a huge profit for the Nexus 4 starting at £259. But that is why we truly love them!
This phone was massive! Within days the Nexus 4 was sold out for both the 8GB and 16GB models. From November to the end of February, there was no sign of the Nexus 4 coming back in stock. Then at the end of January/start of February, news that more than 600,000 people loved. It was back in stock! More than 600,000 Nexus 4's were sold within 1 week. This is a symbol of how much the community loves this phone.
It was perfect for games, perfect for movies, perfect for reading because it was the perfect phone!
Now, here we are in November 2013, one year ahead of the Nexus 4 launch, we have the Nexus 5. This was the most-anticipated and most rumored phone of the year. LG did an amazing job with the Nexus 4 as well as Google's job with the pricing and the Nexus 5 is no let-down! This phone has potential! The Nexus 5 comes with 2 colours with two storage options. The 16GB model or the 32GB model. The 32GB model is exactly what the Nexus fan-base wanted as we considered the Nexus 4's 16GB model still too small!
This is the phone we have been waiting for! And it comes with a bang. This phone has even more amazing specifications than the Nexus 4, and we love it! It comes fresh out of the box with Google's latest OS, Android 4.4 KitKat!
It comes in Black/White with 16GB or 32GB storage options available. It has 1080 x 1920 pixels display along with 445 ppi, higher than we expected!
Its 4.95 inch screen comes with a True HD IPS Plus capacitive touchscreen and has 16 million colours.
The thinnest Nexus phone, the Nexus 5 has an 8.6mm screen.
Its primary camera captures image at 8MP with a resolution of 3264 x 2448 pixels. It captures video at 1080p@30FPS for true HD reocording!
This phone also comes with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), auto-focus and an LED Flash!
It features that powerful Snapdragon 800 processor and a quad-core 2.3GHz Krait 400 CPU!
And for the sad aspect of this post, is Google's opposition to Micro-SD cards or expandable storage. The first Nexus One featured expandable storage, but every Nexus device released after that never featured expandable storage. Luckily, it's just with Nexus devices and not the entire Android Smartphone range! Google may want to promote cloud storage, especially Google's cloud storage, Google Cloud! It is likely to remain this way, but there is no need to complain as now the Nexus 5 comes with 32GB of internal storage!
Please share this post and blog, as this took a lengthy amount of time and effort! Please (+1), comment and vote on the poll!
